Lightning Tan D/A OTF Automatic Knife - Satin Plain

When I received this knife I naturally started playing with it immediately. While the button was very stiff the knife functioned properly--for about six cycles. Then the blade wouldn't retract. I could slide the button back to a certain point and then it wouldn't go any farther. The only way I could get the blade to retract was to manually grab the blade and pull it forward while holding the button back. The mechanism would disconnect the blade and then gravity would allow it to slide back into the handle. I could push the button forward and the blade would deploy but still wouldn't retract.

I called Grindworx to arrange for a return and spoke with Laura. I was anticipating a hassle and probably having to pay for return shipping but Laura couldn't have been nicer or more professional. We tried some things she thought might fix the problem but nothing worked. She said it must be defective and immediately offered a full refund without even having to return the knife. Grindworx (and Laura) get 5 stars for EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

The knife itself was nicely finished, the grind lines were very well done and it was sharp out of the box. Maybe I just got a lemon--it happens. I'd have been very pleased with the knife if it had functioned properly.

I just got it an hour ago. So I can't speak for long term. If it keeps working the way it is so far it's a pretty decent knife. Nice looking blade, sharp, fast action. So far only came off track the first time I tried it and once locked back on it hasn't come off since. Don't think I will be taking it out of the house, from what read online as long as it's in a collection and not used as an EDC it's legal to collect. Cool knife works really well.

When handling livestock a double action automatic is invaluable. You can't let go of a lead rope with a 1000 pound animal attached to open a folding knife. This inexpensive but well made knife makes a great general work tool.
