Its a ok knife. Solid action. But very dull. I like the lightning much better.

First off I will say the blade is very well constructed. Its lightweight. And the safety lock is a nice touch but not needed. However... the handle is not very ergonomic to hands larger than a child. The locking (once open) mechanism gets stuck very easy. The slide away or putting the blade back in is a two-handed operation. And I think the worst part of this design... when you slide the trigger to open, the 'put away' notch slides with the blade and gets caught on your thumb very easily, keeping from a fully locked into-place motion. I would put this at minus stars if I could. Overall... horrible design that requires two hand operation.

The day I received my S&W OTF, a pin fell out and the blade release button fell off. I was no longer able to retract the blade at all. I managed to fix it by supergluing the pin and blade release button together. Even after the repair, I still didn't like the knife. The safety is really cool, and the sturdiness of the blade is fantastic. However, the spring that pulls the blade out is slightly too weak and doesn't pull enough to lock the blade in the extended position - I have to help it by sliding the knob up the rail until it clicks into place. I think the knife is way bulkier than it should be. I also think that the knife was so close to greatness. Had S&W invested in slightly better materials and more precise craftsmanship for this knife, it would have been phenomenal.

the knife is nice and it would be great if it would retract automatically, unfortunately you have to lower the blade manually that's why I gave it 1 star

Not a great knife to pull out in an emergency as the button/slide apparatus for the blade return mechanism can and will hit your thumb when it's pressing the release button keeping the blade from fully extending. You must remember to keep your thumb away from that side of knife.
Very Solid Knife

The action is very nice and tight. No wiggle in the blade when open. Sharp as hell. With practice, you can retract the blade with one hand. Would buy it again without even thinking about it. Was afraid it might be too big but pockets well and fit my hand perfectly.

Update 10-6-2022
Still loving this knife. It remains my favorite OTF knife. The manual resetting is nothing very easy to handle and part of the enjoyment of playing with my adult fidget spinner as my wife calls my knives.

looking for a good OTF knife. I was so surprise that with this price point the knifes quality was so great. The springs were nice. The mechanisms were great and felt high quality
Great knife!

I just got into buying switchblades but not ignorant about knives. Many might think a single action OTF is boring or pointless to buy. However, Smith & Wesson made this a fine blade and put their knowledge of guns into making this blade. First of all, this knife is safe. It has a safety on it which provides me confidence that it won't go off while in my pocket.
Secondly, single action blades have little to no wiggle and the blade stays in a strong position. Its not the sharpest blade there is but I have no complains.

Cons; A black version would be nice. As with most retracting knives, the retractor gets in the way when opening if not held correctly.
Pros; Unit price. Sturdy construction and materials. Locking mechanism. Customization. A great addition for a Smith & Wesson M&P firearm.
